Gilles Werbrouck

  • backstory

Gilles Werbrouck launched his studio in Brussels in 2017 after completing a Bachelor's degree in Fashion Design at the Haute Ecole Francisco Ferrer and specializing in knitted textiles through two Master's degrees at the Académie Royale des Beaux-Arts de Bruxelles (BE) and at Nottingham Trent University (GB).

  • .

After working for 5 years in the fashion industry, including in Come (IT), Shanghai (CN) and Antwerp (BE), he decided to launch his own studio, focusing on knitwear, but translatinghis knowledge of knitwear to the world of design and interiors.

  • .

This approach stems from the observation that knitwear is under-represented and under-exploited in the versatility in terms of textures, yarns, colors, elasticity and finishing techniques.

  • .

In 2020, Werbrouck embarks on the design of a lamp in collaboration with the artist artist Hugues Loinard. The lamp is made by casting white jesmonite onto black black magnetic tape hook. Two elements and materials then welded together, fused into a single piece: the black mesh lampshade and a jesmonite cylinder simplified to the extreme.

  • .

There are 22 copies of the lamp, each representing a film, developed using the same same technique, but still unique.
They will present this limited series at the Salone Satellite (Salone del Mobile) in Milan in 2022, where they won 2nd prize.

  • .

Studio Gilles Werbrouck is a design studio for handmade knitted textile objects. innovative way of incorporating knitwear into interiors - through wall pieces wall pieces, lamps and other experiments.

  • .

From the outset, Werbrouck has made it a point of honor to use only fashion yarns after each season, or unconventional materials such as magnetic tape (VHS). In recent years, the latter has become an important in the development of new pieces.

  • .

The design, production and finishing of each unique piece is carried out by Werbrouck in its studio.
